ECAPPH Policies

The Eastern Canada Pandemic Preparedness Hub (ECaPPH) has been made possible, in part, by the Government of Canada. As such, PPPEC is guided by the following federal policies, where relevant to its role and mandate.

  • Tri-Agency Framework: Responsible Conduct of Research (English/français).
    • Summary. The Agencies are the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). The Framework describes the Tri-Agency policies and requirements related to applying for and managing Agency funds, performing research and disseminating results, and the processes that institutions and agencies follow in the event of an allegation of a breach of an Agency policy. Researchers who apply for or hold Agency funding must adhere to the Framework.
    • Relevance. All research teams/projects endorsed by the ECaPPH and all ECaPPH committee members must adhere to the Framework.

  • Policy Statement on Research Security and COVID-19 from the Government of Canada (English/français).
    • Summary. The Statement exhorts researchers in the health field (in this case, especially COVID-19) to assess proactively the national security risks their research may be open to, especially from human and cyber actors abroad.
    • Relevance. All research teams/projects endorsed by the ECaPPH must complete a Risk Assessment form (available here) before submitting full applications to the Stage 2 CBRF/BRIF competition.

  • Statement on Conflict of Interest and Confidentiality Policy of the Federal Research Funding Organizations (English/français).
    • Summary. The Statement aims to ensure the effective management of conflict of interest of any participant in a review process and to ensure, during the review process, confidentiality of personal information and confidential commercial information.
    • Relevance. All ECaPPH council/committee members must be aware of and apply this policy in view of the significant risk of conflict, real or perceived.

  • Best Practices in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in Research from the federal New Frontiers in Research Fund (English/français).
    • Summary. This guide provides a general overview of systemic barriers that exist in the research ecosystem, and helps support NFRF applicants and reviewers, and the research community, in achieving greater EDI in their research.
    • Relevance. All ECaPPH Stage 2 full proposals will have an ECI section. Research teams are encouraged to adopt as many best practices in this guide as possible.
